The elderly care operator S\u00fcdamekodud O\u00dc has acquired the Meriv\u00e4lja care home from the large German corporation Dussmann Group, becoming the largest elderly care provider in Estonia.<\/strong> As Estonia\u2019s population continues to age and more people require care, Kukk also emphasized that the public sector\u2019s long-term care funding model needs reform. \nThe property is a 134-bed care home located in Tallinn, employing around 50 people. With this acquisition, S\u00fcdamekodud becomes the largest elderly care operator in Estonia. Due to a confidentiality agreement, the parties have not disclosed the purchase price.
\n\u201cS\u00fcdamekodud is now the largest provider with over 700 places, and we are working to improve the quality of long-term care in Estonia,\u201d said Martin Kukk<\/strong>, one of the founders and Chairman of the Board of S\u00fcdamekodud.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe recent report by the Foresight Centre on long-term care trends up to 2035 highlights some concerning issues. For instance, Estonia allocates only 0.4% of GDP in public funding to long-term care \u2014 significantly less than comparable European countries, which invest nearly twice as much,\u201d Kukk noted.
\nTogether with the soon-to-open Valkla S\u00fcdamekodu, the company will operate nine care homes from the beginning of next year, providing services to over 700 residents and employing around 250 people. S\u00fcdamekodud currently operates care homes in K\u00e4rus, Piigastes, Lihulas, V\u00e4rskas, Saaremaa, Kunda, J\u00e4rve, and from January also in Meriv\u00e4lja and Valkla.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
