Former Parliament Speaker Eiki Nestor and Estonian Nurses Union Vice President Gerli Liivet have joined the Supervisory Board of Estonia’s largest elderly care group, Südamekodud AS.
According to Südamekodud Supervisory Board Chairman Martin Kukk, the group is in a growth phase. “We aim to be present for people across Estonia by creating comfortable, home-like care homes. Eiki Nestor and Gerli Liivet bring valuable long-term experience that will help improve the quality of our care services,” Kukk added.
Gerli Liivet has worked in nursing for over 20 years — as a practitioner, lecturer, and now as a leader. Since 2016, she has served as Vice President of the Estonian Nurses Union. “I am delighted to join the Südamekodud team. I hope to use my expertise to support the improvement of nursing and care quality, both from the residents’ and employees’ perspectives,” Liivet said.
Eiki Nestor is a long-time politician, member of the Social Democratic Party, and has previously served as Minister of Social Affairs and Speaker of Parliament. He is also Chairman of the Estonian Association of People with Mobility Disabilities and of the Transport and Road Workers’ Union Council. “In elderly care, things are finally starting to move — and in the right direction. I’ll do my best to contribute,” said Nestor.
Südamekodud has significantly expanded across Estonia in 2023. In August, Valkla Südamekodu opened a newly renovated building wing, offering 78 new modern and cozy rooms. Design work has also begun on the final wing, which upon completion at the end of 2024 will accommodate up to 250 residents.
