Additional services

The 24-hour special care unit of Lihula Südamekodu is home to 30 people with mental and intellectual disabilities. We are located in Lihula at Oja 9. There are three houses, completed at the beginning of 2019. Each house accommodates ten residents, and every resident has their own room. Each house also has a spacious lounge with a kitchenette and a large terrace. Our houses are located within the town, yet slightly away from busy traffic.

The nearest grocery store is about 400 metres away, the pharmacy and family doctor are 450 metres away, the library is 350 metres away, and the cultural centre is 950 metres away. Some of our residents actively use the outdoor gym next to Lihula Gymnasium, which is located about 600 metres from us.

Around the houses, there is a large garden that residents have started to design together with activity instructors. Together they have already created a few flower beds, and some rose bushes and apple trees have found their place. There are also plans to create a greenhouse and a vegetable garden. In the garden, everyone can take part and work as much as they wish and are able to.

There are two activity instructors working around the clock. Their task is to guide our residents in daily life activities such as cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, and going to the store. On weekdays, residents can consult with a psychiatric nurse, who helps to address any health concerns that may arise.

In addition to daily work-related activities, residents can engage in various hobbies such as playing ball games, doing handicrafts, or painting. One of our activity instructors has a musical background, and together with them, residents have learned many beautiful songs. We have also included clients from the supported living service in town in the singing group. Together, we learned selected songs and participated in the Song Festival for people with special needs in Viljandi. We plan to make this an annual tradition. Trips to interesting and scenic places are organized for residents, and with the support of staff, they also arrange their own dance evenings.

We work every day towards a common goal – to ensure that all our residents have an active day filled with positive experiences, regardless of their age or special needs. We stand for our residents’ right to participate in community life and do everything we can to make them feel safe and comfortable in their home.

The monthly co-payment for 24-hour special care service is 500 euros. This amount includes accommodation and meals.

24-hour special care service for a person with severe multiple disabilities

The 24-hour special care unit for persons with severe multiple disabilities at Lihula Südamekodu is home to 12 young people. The unit began operating in 2016 at Pärna Street 4, Lihula.

In 2024, the general care unit of Lihula Südamekodu was expanded, which made it possible to renovate one of the former general care departments and relocate the unit for persons with severe multiple disabilities there. Although the name “Pärna Unit” was retained, the department is now located at 37 Tallinn Highway.

Two qualified activity instructors are on duty at all times. The staff strive to identify and support each person’s individual abilities and skills while helping them learn new ones. At our home, residents receive both the care and support required by their health condition and the opportunity to participate as much as possible in organizing their daily lives. Weekly activities are planned together, and goals are set in an individual activity plan. The residents’ relatives and guardians also play an important supporting role in this process.

On weekdays, a psychiatric nurse provides support. The family doctor is located in the adjacent building and visits the clients regularly. If necessary, we also arrange transportation for specialist appointments and medical examinations.

Supported Living Service

The supported living service is provided in an apartment located at 4 Pärna Street, Lihula. The apartment has three rooms: two bedrooms for clients, a shared living room, and a kitchen. The activity instructor provides support, assistance, and guidance in helping clients manage their independent living.

Employment Support Service

A client referred to the employment support service has the opportunity to work part-time under an employment contract. The activity instructor guides and supports the client in finding a job, helps with preparing the necessary documents, searching for suitable employment, negotiating working conditions with the employer, and provides continuous support throughout the employment period. Lihula Südamekodu offers its clients the possibility to work within the institution as a maintenance worker, kitchen assistant, or cleaner.
