The Story of Südamekodud
In 2017, Martin Kukk, Jako Laanemägi, Rain Rosimannus, and Rene Ilves founded Südamekodud with the goal of creating care homes where they themselves would like to live in their old age.
The aim of Südamekodud is to improve the quality of elderly care services in Estonia and to establish new living environments that are safe and comfortable for spending one’s later years.
2017.
Südamekodud acquired Käru Care and Rehabilitation Center, which became Käru Südamekodu with 50 residential places.
Südamekodud acquired the Saatse Residence, which became Värska Südamekodu with 60 residential places.
2018.
Südamekodud acquired the South Läänemaa Health and Social Care Center, which became Lihula Südamekodu with 60 residential places.
Südamekodud established a new special care center in Lihula with 30 residential places.
2019.
Südamekodud established an elderly home in Saaremaa with 60 residential places, which became Saaremaa Südamekodu.
Südamekodud expanded Käru Südamekodu with a new extension, adding 60 new residential places.
Südamekodud acquired Kunda Nursing Home, which became Kunda Südamekodu with 60 residential places.
2020.
Südamekodud acquired the Piigaste Residence, which became Piigaste Südamekodu with 45 residential places.
2021.
Südamekodud acquired the Valkla complex from Hoolekandeteenused AS and began renovations.
Construction of an extension to Lihula Südamekodu began.
2022.
Südamekodud acquired Kursana, which became Merivälja Südamekodu with 134 residential places.
Südamekodud acquired the Pirita Residence, which became Pirita Südamekodu.
Käru, Lihula, Saaremaa, Kunda, Merivälja, and Pirita merged into Südamekodud AS.
The first residents were welcomed in Valkla, and renovation continues.
2023.
The construction of the previously halted extension of Lihula Südamekodu was resumed.
Construction of Tartu Südamekodu began.
Südamekodud expanded Valkla Südamekodu with a new extension, adding 74 new residential places.
Südamekodud acquired the Paide Residence, which became Paide Südamekodu with 125 residential places.
Südamekodud expanded Lihula Südamekodu with a new extension, adding 42 new residential places. Renovation of the older buildings also began, after which Lihula Südamekodu will have 92 residential places for elderly people and 42 for special care.
2024.
Saaremaa Südamekodu was expanded with a new unit, adding 13 residential places. Planning has begun for a further expansion of 30 additional places.
A care center property in Hiiu was acquired. Design work began on the future home of Nõmme Südamekodu.
Tartu Südamekodu was opened. In the first phase, two units with 120 residential places were opened. Construction of the third unit, planned for 60 places, has also begun.
Renovation of the third building of Valkla Südamekodu began and is expected to be completed in early 2025.
2025.
Valkla Südamekodu was expanded with a new unit. The third building was renovated, adding 80 residential places, and outdoor terraces were built.
Saaremaa Südamekodu was expanded with a new unit, adding 32 residential places.
Construction of Nõmme Südamekodu has begun and is scheduled for completion in summer 2026.
The third residential building of Tartu Südamekodu was opened, adding 60 residential places for people with dementia. A large hall for events and gatherings was also built during the construction.
Südamekodud begins expansion into Latvia and Lithuania in cooperation with EfTEN Capital.
