A few days ago, Dementia Competence Centre director Pipi-Liis Siemann presented Käru Südamekodu manager Heili Burmeister with a certificate granting Käru Südamekodu the designation of a dementia-friendly institution.
Located in Türi municipality, Käru Südamekodu provides services to 25 people living with dementia.
“Käru Südamekodu has adapted its environment and services to meet the needs of clients with dementia and fully deserves this recognition. We believe that awarding this designation highlights the institution’s values and sets an example for all other organisations providing care for people with dementia,” the competence centre stated.
The dementia-friendly label is awarded for three years and can be applied for by institutions that consciously develop their environment and services, train staff with a focus on the needs of people with dementia, and whose development goals are aligned with this group of clients. The criteria for earning the label were developed in cooperation with the Health Development Institute, the Council of Social Care Institution Leaders, and the Social Insurance Board.
Institutions that have previously received the dementia-friendly designation include: Benita Kodu, SA Koeru Hooldekeskus, Häädemeeste Eakate Kodu, and the social care department of SA Viljandi Hospital’s care centre.
