Second-phase construction begins at Tartu Südamekodu, which opened in September. The wing that reached the “shell stage” last autumn will be completed in full. Modern living conditions for 60 seniors will be created, along with a hall for shared activities. The construction is carried out by RIS Ehitus OÜ, with a project cost of 1.3 million euros, and will be completed in summer 2025.
The first stage of Tartu Südamekodu, developed in cooperation with EfTEN Real Estate Fund AS, opened in September 2024, with a total investment of approximately 5.3 million euros.
In addition to resident rooms, Tartu Südamekodu required more space for leisure activities. Therefore, an activity hall is being built as an extension of the dining area. A solar park is planned on the building’s roof.
Tartu Südamekodu has been warmly welcomed by people in South Estonia, and the building’s occupancy has exceeded initial expectations. “The Tartu Südamekodu, opened in autumn, filled up with residents very quickly and demand exceeded expectations. This led us to start the second construction phase slightly earlier than planned. Thanks to this, 60 seniors will have the opportunity to live in a modern and safe environment already this summer,” said Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Südamekodud Martin Kukk.
Tartu Südamekodu has been designed specifically with the needs of seniors in mind, offering a versatile living environment, meaningful activities, and modern, supportive working conditions for all staff.
Tartu Südamekodu is located in Raadi at Ermi 13, right next to the Estonian National Museum. The care home building is being completed in stages: in the first stage, the full structural shell was completed, and in the second stage, interior works are carried out in the finished wing. The third wing of Tartu Südamekodu, not yet built, is designed specifically for people with dementia.
