A new apartment-style room section has been opened at Saaremaa Südamekodu, adding 36 new living places for older people – the new section includes 30 single rooms and 3 double rooms. The single rooms are primarily intended for more active older people who value privacy and independence.

These are apartment-style solutions where each room includes, in addition to a bed and wardrobe, a desk, a small kitchenette with a sink, a refrigerator and a private bathroom. At the same time, all standard elderly care home services are ensured.

“We wanted to create an environment that offers older people more independence. These rooms are well suited for people who manage daily life quite independently but still need support and supervision. Here they have the opportunity to be on their own, receive guests privately, while at the same time all elderly care home services are ensured – care support, nursing care, support in daily life, leisure activities and everything else,” said the Manager of Saaremaa Südamekodu Kristina Naaber.

“We see that privacy and a more personalised living environment are increasingly valued. The new rooms create very good conditions for this,” added Member of the Management Board of Südamekodud AS Meelis Mälberg. “Creating such solutions helps us offer older people more choices – not everyone needs the same environment or support. The extension also improves the availability of quality elderly care services on Saaremaa, where demand is growing. Our goal is that a person can find a suitable living environment exactly when it is needed and live with dignity and as independently as possible,” added Mälberg.

Saaremaa Südamekodu is located in the beautiful nature of Saaremaa in Upa, offering a peaceful and nature-close living environment, while Kuressaare is only a short drive away.

As the rooms include small kitchenettes that make access narrower, the rooms are not suitable for fully bed-bound residents or residents using wheelchairs. However, they are suitable for older people using rollators, walking frames and similar aids.

Service prices for personalised rooms at Saaremaa Südamekodu start from 1825€. The care cost component is supported by the older person’s local municipality – on Saaremaa the municipality support amount is currently 560 euros.
