By the End of the Year, Lihula Südamekodu Will Have a More Modern Living Environment and 50 New Care Home Places

Tera Ehitus OÜ and Lihula Südamekodu have signed a general contract for the construction of the Lihula Südamekodu extension. The care home complex will gain nearly 1,400 m² of additional space, and the new modern building providing a comfortable living environment will be completed in December 2023. The total investment amounts to €2.4 million including VAT.
“The construction contract for the Lihula Südamekodu extension has been signed, and work is underway. Hopefully, by the end of this year, elderly residents and those with multiple disabilities requiring special care will have a modern and improved living environment, while staff will benefit from a more contemporary and functional workspace. Altogether, Lihula Südamekodu will offer about one hundred care home places instead of the current fifty,” said Südamekodud supervisory board chairman Martin Kukk.
The new building is being constructed in the inner courtyard of the existing Lihula care home. “At present, we operate in three separate buildings in Lihula, some of which are in a worn condition. With the completion of the new building and renovations, we will merge the so-called women’s and men’s houses, while maintaining a direct connection to the family health center. We are very much looking forward to the new building and renewed living environment. The region also eagerly awaits dozens of new care places. Residents with multiple disabilities, currently housed separately on Pärna Street, will also move into the new building,” explained Lihula Südamekodu manager Vanda Birnbaum.
According to Birnbaum, when Lihula Südamekodu joined the Südamekodud network in 2018, the commitment was made to expand the home and create more places for people in need of care. “We signed the construction contract over a year ago, but the bankruptcy of Haart Ehitus temporarily halted the project’s implementation. Now, however, the forecast shows that by the end of the year, we will be in the new building,” added Birnbaum.
The Lihula Südamekodu extension will be completed in December 2023, after which the care home will have 92 general care places and 10 specialized care places for residents with multiple disabilities. Construction supervision is provided by Ösel Consulting OÜ.
Operating since 2001, Lihula Südamekodu is located in the town of Lihula, Pärnu County, and provides both 24-hour general care and specialized care services. The care home currently has 50 places and 10 places for people with multiple disabilities on Pärna Street. Additionally, there are three specialized family homes on Oja Street, providing 24-hour care for 30 people with mental and intellectual disabilities.
