After renovation works, the Saaremaa Südamekodu in Upa gained 32 new service places, bringing the total capacity to 108 elderly residents. During the construction, the first-floor lobby and dining hall were refurbished, and an elevator was installed. The expansion, renovation, and new furnishings cost a total of 650,000 euros.

The Saaremaa Südamekodu now has six departments, all named after elements of nature: Männiku, Tammiku, Kuusiku, Kaasiku, Kadastiku, and Lepiku. A café will soon open in the first-floor lobby, designed for both residents and visitors.
Manager of Saaremaa Südamekodu Piret Pihel said that there is a great need for additional places:
“The demand for places in Saaremaa is very high — unfortunately, there are not enough for everyone who would like to come. We are glad that after extensive renovation and expansion, we can offer a safe home to even more elderly people. The house is now cozy, spacious, and provides a truly pleasant environment.”
Ka AS Südamekodud juhatuse liige Keiu Talve , Member of the Management Board of AS Südamekodud, a small tradition has already formed in Saaremaa — cutting a ribbon every year. “Each year in Saaremaa, there is something new to open or expand, and we hope this continues, as there is still room for growth. The goal of Südamekodud is to create a homely and comfortable living environment in all our care homes — we want everyone to feel safe and well here. This is thanks to our caring staff and well-planned activities,” added Talve.
In addition to 24-hour general care services, Saaremaa Südamekodu, in cooperation with the Saaremaa Municipality, also offers interval care — a short-term general care service.
